Panels, presentations, stands and cultural expressions reaffirm the importance of multicultural higher education
Within the framework of the International Year of Indigenous Languages decreed by UNESCO and inaugurated in January 2019, the Universidad Nacional de Salta (Argentina) and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of the Province of Salta, through the Centro de Investigaciones Sociales y Educativas del Norte Argentino-CISEN (Social and Educational Research Center of Northern Argentina) and the Intercultural Bilingual Education Teaching Staffs of the Dirección General de Educación Superior –DGES (General Directorate of Higher Education), organize the IV Conference on Teacher Training in Intercultural Bilingual Education “Reaffirming constitutional rights to cultural and ethnic identities in the framework of Intercultural Bilingual Education (IBE) ”.
Held in the Province of Salta, Argentina from August 12 through August 26, the conference includes panels, presentations, stands and exhibitions of cultural expressions with a view to strengthen continuous teacher training for a multicultural education. Higher education centers and institutions from the region’s neighboring countries (Brazil and Bolivia), and from Argentina participate. These events seek to defend “the rights of indigenous peoples, with particular emphasis on their culture, language, knowledge and worldview”, as indicated in the descriptive document Jornadas de Formación Docente EIB (IBE Teacher Training Conference).
It should be noted that, according to UNESCO, “Indigenous languages make up the majority of the world’s estimated 7,000 languages and all of them are depositories and vehicles of culture, knowledge, values and identity”.
