Academics will address the elimination of racism in higher education institutions and society
As part of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, four academics from Argentina, Nicaragua, the United Kingdom and the West Indies will meet in an online seminar to discuss the challenges and opportunities for higher education institutions (HEIs) to eradicate racial discrimination.
The webinar What could higher education institutions do to eradicate racism from within and in their societies? will address the positive ways and actions that can be taken in HEIs to eradicate racism, both within the organizations themselves and in the societies to which they belong.
Daniel Mato (UNTREF, Argentina), Rajani Naidoo (University of Bath, United Kingdom), Alta Hooker (University of the Autonomous Regions of the Nicaraguan Caribbean Coast, Nicaragua) and Verene A. Shepherd (University of the West Indies) are the participating speakers.
This will be a continuation of the conversation held in November 2021 by Naidoo and Mato, in which they delved into how the academy both legitimizes and combats racism at the same time.
The event, to be held on March 21 from 10:00h to 11:30h (Caracas, UTC -4), will be moderated by Emma Emma Sabzalieva and Salma Ahmed (UNESCO IESALC).
