Discussions on the Regional Convention and the World Convention on the Recognition of Studies

The Director of UNESCO IESALC, Francesc Pedró, will discuss the Regional Convention on the Recognition of Studies, Diplomas and Degrees in Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the Global Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education, in light of Colombia’s upcoming ratification.

The Regional Convention aims to harmonize and guarantee fair and non-discriminatory recognition procedures among the States Parties, in order to facilitate greater intraregional academic mobility.

For the United Nations, the Global Convention is the first legally binding instrument on higher education with a global scope and will complement the five existing UNESCO regional conventions on the recognition of higher education degrees and diplomas. It provides a solid structure for strengthening student mobility and inter-university cooperation, which will benefit millions of students and graduates around the world.
