Intercultural and indigenous higher education institutions in Latin America

The Representation for Education in Latin America and the Caribbean and the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC) are organizing this webinar based on the findings of the publication “Intercultural and indigenous higher education institutions in Latin America”.

The event aims to promote dialogue among actors around the regional panorama of the trajectories, curricular proposals, forms of administration and importance of indigenous knowledge revealed by these higher education institutions, in addition to sharing their experiences of good practices.

This publication delves into the relationship between indigenous peoples and their right to inclusive education, providing a regional overview of the IESIIs that shows their institutional diversity and the role they have played in the processes of claiming educational models based on intercultural thinking.

The event aims to promote dialogue among actors around the regional panorama of the trajectories, curricular proposals, forms of administration and importance of indigenous knowledge revealed by these higher education institutions, in addition to sharing their experiences of good practices.

The seminar provides an opportunity to collaborate in policy development and stimulate regional dialogue to take the necessary measures for the use, preservation, revitalization and promotion of indigenous languages in higher education.

La Representación de la UNESCO para la Educación en América Latina y el Caribe y el Instituto Internacional de la UNESCO para la Educación Superior en América Latina y el Caribe (IESALC) organizan este seminario web basado en los hallazgos de la publicación “Las instituciones de educación superior interculturales e indígenas en América Latina”.

El evento tiene como objetivo promover el diálogo entre actores en torno al panorama regional de las trayectorias, propuestas curriculares, formas de administración e importancia de los conocimientos indígenas relevados por estas instituciones de educación superior, además de compartir sus experiencias de buenas prácticas.

Esta publicación profundiza en la relación existente entre los pueblos indígenas y su derecho a una educación inclusiva, entregando un panorama regional de las IESII que da cuenta de su diversidad institucional y el papel que han jugado en los procesos de reivindicación de modelos educativos sustentados en un pensamiento intercultural.

El seminario proporciona una oportunidad para colaborar en el desarrollo de políticas y estimular el diálogo regional para tomar las medidas necesarias para el uso, preservación, revitalización y promoción de las lenguas indígenas desde la educación superior.
