I Public Consultation, Axis 7: Decent work and living conditions in higher education institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Group of Consultants formed to follow up on Axis 7 of the Regional Conference on Higher Education (CRES+5) invites to the First Public Consultation: Decent work and living conditions in higher education institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean, as part of the preparatory activities towards the Regional Conference on Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (CRES+5).

First, Maribel Batista, Specialist in Workers’ Activities, ILO Office for the Southern Cone of Latin America , will introduce “the concept of decent work”, followed by the participants’ opinions on its application in HEIs.

Next, Luis Bonilla Molina, member of the Steering Committee of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences CLACSO, will comment on “the progress and contributions made by different organizations on the themes of Axis 7 at the Regional Conference on Higher Education (Córdoba, Argentina, 2018) and the III World Conference on Higher Education (Barcelona, Spain, 2022)”, to then give space for discussion and reception of contributions from the audience.

Finally, Marcelo Di Stefano, executive secretary of the Confederation of University Workers of the Americas (Contua),  will offer his reflections on “the effects of the pandemic on decent work in higher education institutions in LAC” and, at the end of his presentation, there will also be a space for discussion and reception of contributions.

Survey

We are conducting a survey on the progress and challenges of compliance with the dimensions of decent work in HEIs. We are especially interested in collecting and making known the opinions on the subject of teaching workers, university researchers, and non-teaching workers (technical-administrative, civil servants, support staff).

The results of this consultation will allow us to prepare a report that we will publish on December 15 of this year. They will be widely disseminated through social networks and sent to all university organizations involved in the preparation of the meeting in Brasilia, so that they know in advance our views and proposals on this issue.

In order for this to be possible, we need to receive your responses by November 10 of this year.

El Grupo de Consultores conformado para dar seguimiento al Eje 7 de la Conferencia Regional en Educación Superior (CRES+5) invita a la I Consulta Pública: Trabajo decente y condiciones de vida en las instituciones de educación superior de América Latina y el Caribe, como parte de las actividades preparatorias hacia la Conferencia Regional de Educación Superior en América Latina y el Caribe (CRES+5). 

Primero intervendrá  Maribel Batista, Especialista en Actividades con Trabajadores/ Oficina de la OIT para el Cono Sur de América Latina , quién introducirá “el concepto de trabajo decente” y, seguidamente, se escuchará la opinión de los y las participantes sobre su aplicación en las IES. 

Seguidamente, Luis Bonilla Molina, miembro titular del Comité Directivo del Consejo Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales CLACSO, comentará sobre “los avances y contribuciones realizadas por diferentes organizaciones sobre los temas del Eje 7 en la Conferencia Regional en Educación Superior (Córdoba, Argentina, 2018) y la III Conferencia Mundial de Educación Superior (Barcelona, España, 2022)”, para dar luego espacio al debate y recepción de contribuciones por parte de la audiencia. 

Finalmente,  Marcelo Di Stefano, secretario ejecutivo de la Confederación de los Trabajadores de las Universidades de las Américas (Contua), aportará sus reflexiones en torno a “los efectos de la pandemia sobre el trabajo decente en las instituciones de educación superior en ALC” y, finalizada su intervención, se abrirá igualmente un espacio para el debate y recepción de contribuciones.

Encuesta

Estamos realizando una encuesta  acerca de los avances y desafíos del cumplimiento de las dimensiones del trabajo decente en las IES. Nos interesa especialmente recoger y dar a conocer las opiniones sobre la materia de los trabajadores docentes, investigadores universitarios, y trabajadores no docentes (técnico-administrativos, funcionarios, personal de apoyo).

Los resultados de esta consulta nos permitirán elaborar un informe que publicaremos el 15 de diciembre de este año. Serán difundidos ampliamente por las redes sociales y enviados al conjunto de organizaciones universitarias que participan en la preparación de la reunión en Brasilia, para que conozcan con suficiente antelación nuestras opiniones y propuestas respecto de este tema.

Para que ello sea posible necesitamos recibir sus respuestas a más tardar el día 10 de noviembre del año en curso.
